ASX-listed Auric Mining has started mining at its Munda gold mine in Western Australia.

The company began breaking ground at the Munda starter pit on May 10, with site infrastructure, including haul roads, waste dumps, run-of-mine pads, and a mine camp, largely completed. Mining is currently under way in the weathered, free-dig zone, with the first blast expected within the next two weeks as operations progress into harder rock.

“We’re off to an excellent start at Munda. The full team has slotted in perfectly and we are now moving earth from the Starter Pit,” said Auric MD Mark English. “It won’t be long before ore stockpiles build at Munda. This is an exciting time for Auric.”

The company expects to extract 125 000 t of ore at a grade of 1.8 g/t gold, targeting production of about 6 100 oz over a five-month mining schedule. The project’s all-in sustaining costs are forecast at A$2 635/oz, based on a December 2024 reserve estimate.

Auric acquired the Munda tenements in September 2020 and has since positioned the asset as its flagship project. The broader Munda resource is estimated at 145 000 oz of gold. Upon completion of the starter pit, the company plans to initiate detailed mine planning for a larger main pit, with development expected in 2026.

“This mine is our future for the next five years and we are settling in for a sustained period of gold production,” said English. “It is a momentous time for Auric.”

The Munda operation is located about 5 km west of Widgiemooltha and is fully funded through cash flow from Auric’s previous campaign at the Jeffreys Find gold project near Norseman.
